Meet the Team

Silvia Luo is the Director of China Business Development & Strategy at Wiley, overseeing its Publishing Solutions business across China and supports strategic initiatives across the APAC region. With over 20 years of experience in scholarly publishing, Silvia has held key roles at both domestic and international publishing organizations, including the Chinese Medical Association, Elsevier, and Wolters Kluwer. Her previous positions include In-house Editor, Journal Partnership Project Manager, China Business Development Manager, and Director of China Strategy. Silvia has consistently focused on enhancing the operational efficiency and global competitiveness of scientific journals, helping them improve performance and expand their international reach.

Leveraging his vast experience in managing technology project teams across multiple industries, Himanshu ensures smooth service provision to some of Atypon’s largest clients. He joined Atypon in 2008 as a senior project manager after working in project management at Macrovision and holding various technical and engineering positions at eMeta, CapGemini/Ernst & Young, Verizon, and Tata. In his current role as the voice of Atypon’s customers, Himanshu ensures smooth service provision to some of the company’s largest clients. He holds a bachelor of engineering degree in computer science from the University of Mumbai and is the coauthor of a book on project management—#Project Management Tweet.

Patrick joined Atypon in 2015 and is now leading Atypon Experience Platform Product Management.
In addition to his product leadership skills, he has brought to Atypon more than 20 years’ experience in software engineering, building scalable platforms, and managing engineering groups. Patrick began his career in product development at American Management Systems, then moved to Greece to become the CTO of Upstream, a startup connecting mobile users with telecom operators, media, and marketeers.
He has also led engineering and product development at technology companies with projects such as Blackberry’s messenger ad platform and VAS solutions deployed by telecom companies around the world. Patrick has a Bachelor of Arts in computer science and physics from Hamilton College, New York.

Rachel has worked at Wiley for more than 17 years in various positions including leading product management for Wiley Online Library and the Cochrane Library. She moved to the Atypon team in 2022 where she oversees product management for CONNECT Identity Provider, CONNECT Customer Data Platform & Insights and works to ensure customers generate maximum value from all Atypon products and solutions. Before coming to Wiley, Rachel worked in product management and user experience design at Barnes & Noble, WeightWatchers, and Muze, and worked as an independent consultant for several others. Rachel has a BA in History from Brandeis University.

Hannah Smith is the Senior Director of Strategic Account Management & Development in Wiley Partner Solutions partnering with our customers to provide solutions which accelerate their organizational objectives and supporting them in navigating the evolving publishing landscape. Hannah has over 15 years of experience in scholarly publishing. Prior to joining Wiley Partner Solutions in 2020, Hannah served in a number of roles within Wiley Publishing focused on supporting large society relationships and helping partners to adapt and grow against the backdrop of Open Access.

Since 2011, Michael has worked with scholarly publishers, societies, and institutions to build and operate high-quality publishing workflow solutions. Before joining Atypon, Michael supported scholarly workflows at J&J Editorial by partnering with small and large publishers to develop best practice approaches to peer review, production, and digital delivery of final publishing files to indexes, printers, and online platforms. Since joining Wiley Partner Solutions, Michael has worked to combine service and technology capabilities to create comprehensive workflow solutions for scholarly publishing partners. Before entering the publishing industry, Michael supported functional neuroimaging studies at Duke University Medical Center, and he holds a BS in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Since joining the Atypon team 10 years ago as a project manager, Doreen has brought her skills in customer relationship building and team leadership to working with our largest and most complex customers. As Senior Director of Atypon Solutions, she oversees the Atypon Delivery Team of Account Managers, Solution Architects, and Project Managers. Doreen has over 20 years publishing experience. Prior to joining Atypon, she held product management, partner development, and program management roles in online publishing platform services. Prior to joining the publishing world, she worked in finance and banking as a business analyst in international money transfer.

Magenta is the Key Account Management Director in Wiley Partner Solutions. Her team is responsible for expanding and retaining high-value customer relationships within Wiley’s Publishing and Audience Solutions divisions. By focusing on strategic revenue growth, customer success, and business development, she ensures strong retention and long-term partnerships with key clients. Magenta has over 20 years’ experience at Wiley, having worked in roles across the company including the Books Editorial team, and the Journals Publishing team. She holds a BA in English Literature from Reading University.

Nash joined Atypon in 2006 as a strategic marketing manager, with program management responsibilities for Atypon’s largest projects. He now handles project and client relationship management for European clients and also heads up Atypon’s UK office. Before working in scholarly publishing, Nash was employed as a software engineer, product manager, QA manager, and software management team leader. He worked with some of the world’s largest publishers, including Oxford and Cambridge University presses and Blackwell, where he was the product manager for the company’s online journals platform. He also helped launch Blackwell’s Online Bookshop. Nash holds a degree in computer engineering from the University of Manchester.

Eleni Xifara joined Atypon in 2016. With the help of a team of talented professionals, she is responsible for the delivery of projects and features to the Atypon client base. Before joining Atypon, Eleni held Product and Program Management positions in global cellphone operators and technology service providers. Eleni holds a BSc in Computer Science and Telecommunications from the University of Athens and an MSc from Essex University.

Since 2001, Hisham has been involved in several high-impact initiatives at Atypon, including writing Crossref, onboarding the company’s largest clients, and establishing the engineering office in Amman, Jordan. His continued focus is making sure Atypon’s clients’ needs are met by its software, DevOps, and QA engineering teams. Prior to joining Atypon, Hisham developed the first guaranteed message delivery system for Slam Dunk Network; previously he was a principal member of the team that built Oracle’s JDeveloper tool. He earned a BS in computer engineering from Technion—Israel Institute of Technology.

Rob has been with Atypon since 2015, working with the MIT Press, the American Meteorological Society, and SAGE Publications. Prior to joining Atypon, Rob was CTO of AutorepairConnect and director of engineering at Findlaw—both web platform companies. He also led the Java 3D team at Sun Microsystems for eight years. Rob holds a BS in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.

Dino, a digital innovation and design strategist with 15 years’ experience advising organizations on the value of design-led innovation, has created hundreds of integrated, multi-channel campaigns. Before coming to Atypon, he led Rocketgraph, a startup focusing on data visualization of cloud services for visual storytelling. Dino was also responsible for creative and client initiatives at Cambo, a digital agency where he developed award-winning work for Kellogg’s, Starwood, Domino’s, and L’Oréal. He was also client services director at Upstream Systems and a usability specialist at GTE Laboratories (now Verizon). Dino has a BS in computer science and an MS in human-computer interaction from DePaul University.

With more than 20 years’ experience in project management, software development, and engineering, Mike joined Atypon in 2010 to oversee the company’s Project Management Office. Mike later assumed the role of chief client advocate, working closely with customers to understand their business goals and ensure their technology needs are being met. Previously, Mike was the director of professional services with Macrovision, whose eMeta division was acquired by Atypon in 2008. He has held various software engineering positions at Standard & Poor’s as well as at Lockheed Martin and other military contractors. He earned a BS in electrical engineering from Penn State University.

Hong established and leads Atypon’s Intelligent Services Group, which designs and develops intelligent services to enrich, connect and analyze content and audience data by leveraging AI, big data, and cloud technologies. He also heads Atypon’s AI R&D Team, which designs artificial intelligence-based solutions and next-generation information discovery systems for scholarly research. His personal research passion is supporting publishers’ and researchers’ success in their transition to Open Access and Open Science. Before joining Atypon in January 2017, Hong applied machine learning algorithms for the insurance industry as the CTO of Digital Fineprint, served as a senior software engineer and development manager at Schlumberger, and developed racing games for the British video game developer Eutechnyx. Hong holds a PhD in 3D modeling with artificial intelligence algorithms from Aberystwyth University in Wales, an MBA in Digital Transformation & Strategy from University of Oxford, a master’s degree in computer science from The University of Sheffield, and certifications in AI and Cloud from Stanford University and Google. As well as serving as a distinguished expert in the National Key Laboratory of Knowledge Mining and Service for Medical Journals in China, Hong is widely published on computer science and AI topics and presents regularly at prominent industry events, most recently speaking on a panel for BioASQ with representatives from Google and NIH.
